A citation is any online mention of your business name, phone number and location or service area. For a pool service company, citations do two jobs: they help customers find you on the apps they already use, and they give Google consistent signals about who you are and where you work. Wrong or mismatched details (an old phone number, a former business name) work against you on both counts.
Start with the maps and the big platforms
- Google Business Profile. The most important listing for most local pool companies. Choose an accurate primary category, set your service area, add real photos of your work, and keep hours current. See our Google Business Profile checklist.
- Apple Business Connect. Controls how you appear in Apple Maps and Siri on iPhones.
- Bing Places for Business. Feeds Bing search and maps. You can import details from your Google profile.
- Yelp. Many homeowners check Yelp reviews before booking a home service. Claim your free business page and keep it accurate.
- Facebook and Nextdoor. Neighbors ask for pool service recommendations in both. A claimed business page makes it easy for people to tag you.
Add home-service and local directories
- Angi and Thumbtack. Home-service marketplaces where people search for pool cleaning and repair. Basic profiles are free; leads or advertising may cost money, so read the terms before opting in.
- Better Business Bureau. A free BBB business profile is available; accreditation is a separate paid option.
- Your local chamber of commerce and city or county business directories, if you're a member or eligible.
What to put in every listing
- The exact same business name, written the same way everywhere.
- One main phone number, ideally the one on your website.
- Your service area (cities or ZIP codes) instead of a home address if you don't serve customers at a location.
- The services you offer: weekly cleaning, chemical balancing, equipment repair, filter cleaning, openings and closings.
- A link to your website and a few real photos.
Reviews: the part that keeps working
Listings get you seen; reviews help you get chosen. Ask every happy customer for a Google review, reply to every review, and never offer discounts or gifts in exchange. Our guide on how to get more Google reviews without violating Google's policy covers how to ask, and how to respond to a bad Google review covers the replies.
Keep it tidy
Keep a simple spreadsheet of every listing, its login and the date you last checked it. When anything changes (phone, hours, service area), update every listing the same week.
Buildzaro builds websites for pool service companies and can help set up your Google profile and review requests. Websites start at $499 one-time, or you can choose a monthly plan from $129/month.
